Dr. Filani and SHM

On February 8, 1968, 3 innocent kids lost their lives here on this campus. Samuel Hammond Jr, Delano Middleton, and Henry Smith. The students protested for the All-Star Triangle Bowling Lanes, just for an equal chance to bowl. The Orangeburg Massacre was a tragedy that will never be forgotten here in Orangeburg, South Carolina.

Dr. Tolulope Filani, a well-qualified Missouri Alumni looking for a job at South Carolina State, decided to spice up the campus look. He decided to make a memorial out of the faces of SHM. The sculptures later became some of the most important faces on the campus quickly.

Dr. Filani did an amazing job and deserved praise for the sculptures. When asked about the sculptures he humbly acknowledges the SHM is the legacy that is being displayed not his. He has sculptures in other countries so he is a decorated sculpture. Here's a link if you want to hear more about Dr. Filani.
